35 coaches at institutions in Black Hawk County earned $75,275 on average in 2022

Black Hawk County’s 35 coaches earned an average salary of $75,275 in 2022, according to the U.S. Department of Education.

This is the third highest average salary per county earned by coaches at Iowa post-secondary schools during 2022.

Black Hawk County is home to two post-secondary schools that paid coaches during 2022. Among them, University of Northern Iowa stood out with the highest average coaching salary of $161,240.

Male coaches of men's teams received $159,893 on average in Black Hawk County, while female coaches in charge of women's teams earned an average of $55,987.

Research from the Vanderbilt Owen Graduate School of Management found NCAA coaches are compensated like CEOs, with top coaches earning more than $1.5 million annually.
